Thanks to Mike Lamble’s persistence, Monique caved in and attended his art classes – and has been hooked ever since. Whilst Monique’s preference is lifedrawing with oils or pastels, she enjoys the creative process of drawing or painting other subject matter and finds she almost completely looses track of time when in front of the easel. “I still find a blank canvas confronting and exciting. With a few strokes I’m able to relax and just let the image emerge; its a completely meditative process. Having said that, however, I have high expectations of myself and won’t stop until I’m satisfied that the painting or drawing has truly captured a moving or inspiring moment”. In recent years, Monique has also learnt photography. Whether the image is used as a reference for painitngs or as artwork, Monique enjoys the challenge of capturing light beautifully and emotively. Experimenting with colour and styles and exploring different themes are intrinsic to her approach.
